"Deliberately Buried Comics" are deliberately made to look sillier than they actually are. First of all, the comic narrative always leads you by the nose only to turn out to be something you didn't expect, and it does so almost without fail. It shows that no matter how dumb the plot is, the narrative takes a hold of you. The second thing is that no matter how silly they are, they're by no means done by a silly person. Comedy is one of the hardest things to do, and judging by how funny they are, they're not done by some ignorant, humorless oaf, I can tell you that much.

Well, there are numerous reasons, but the key reason is that plot twists exploit our mental and perceptional limitations. If you want to be an excellent "plot twister," you have to really delve deep into how the human mind works, and exploit the shortcomings of our brain. Cognitive scientist Vera Tobin points out a few fallacies that help in building a plot twist: the curse of knowledge, confirmation bias, anchoring, availability bias, and, last but not least, hindsight bias.
