PANearly 12 years after her disappearance, Netflix are reportedly going to delve into the mystery surrounding Madeleine McCann in an upcoming documentary.
The young girl went missing in May 2007 from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal, where her parents had left her to go and have dinner in a nearby restaurant.
The case is one of, if not the most widely reported missing persons cases in recent history, and police are yet to figure out exactly what happened to Maddie.
PASimilar to how the streaming service delved into real-life mysteries in series like The Staircase, Netflix have reportedly created a documentary about the disappearance of Maddie, which is produced by Pulse Films and is set to become available this month, the Mail Online report.
Netflix are said to have ‘riveting’ interviews with key investigators, which will presumably shed some interesting light on the curious case, however the young girl’s parents Kate and Gerry have refused to take part in the film, as have their holiday friends and former spokesperson Clarence Mitchell, who said ‘we want nothing to do with it’.
According to the Mail Online, a source close to the movie makers explained:
Everyone everywhere is fascinated by the Maddie story. We would have welcomed the opportunity of working with the McCanns directly but they informed us they couldn’t and wouldn’t consider taking part while a police investigation is into their daughter’s abduction is ongoing.
But we have interesting new interviews with people close to the inquiry and we believe we can give justice to this unbelievably tragic story.
A friend of the family’s said:
We understand it is a serialised drama but neither Kate, Gerry nor their holiday friends and main players have co-operated in any shape or form. And we have no idea who the actors are. We believe it is coming out very soon, within the next two weeks and before the next anniversary.
Netflix had been hoping to screen it last year but the project took them a lot longer than expected. They had been wanting to string it out over eight episodes but it may now be a one or two parter.
I’m sure the documentary will unveil some interesting information about the case.
