Tesco is doing their bit to combat loneliness this festive season, selling ‘twosie’ jumpers you can wear with a buddy.

Not only will this bring you – quite literally – closer together, this one-size-fits-all jumper will help to support those who are feeling lonely this Christmas time.

The supermarket’s clothing brand F&F have joined forces with mental health charity, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), with a particular focus on male mental health.

It’s hoped these jumpers will encourage men to support each other at what can be a tricky time of year. F&F will reportedly give 100 per cent of profits from jumper sales to CALM, and hope to raise £25,000.

For £18 each, these jumpers are reasonably priced when you consider you’re getting two for the price of one, and they’re as fun and Christmassy as any other jumper on the high street, complete with wintery Fair Isle patterns and merry Mr and Mrs Claus designs.

As reported by Metro, CEO of CALM, Simon Gunning, stated:

We’re delighted to continue CALM’s relationship with F&F at Tesco this festive period.

Christmas is a fun, joyous time of year but we know it can be tough too.

That’s why we’re encouraging people to get together and look out for their mates, families and loved ones – whether that be checking in with a text, catching up with someone you haven’t seen for a while, or teaming up for a laugh in a festive two-headed jumper.

According to Mind’s website, connecting with others is a great way to look after your mental health over the Christmas period:

Sometimes, the last thing we feel like doing is talking to people. You might be feeling anxious, or overhwelmed, or just not very sociable – but connecting with other people has lots of benefits for your mental health.

Talking through things that are worrying you can be really helpful, just sharing whatever it is can help you feel supported, and listened to.

Christmas can also be a really good time to get in touch with people you might not speak to regularly – and you never know who might need a listening ear.

Connecting with people is also a really good chance to do some good. You could find somewhere to volunteer (maybe at your local Mind?) or offer to help out a friend of family member who’s got a lot going on over Christmas, it’s proven to help your mental health by boosting your self-esteem and improving your mood.

Although Christmas is often viewed as a time for indulgence, parties and surrounding yourself with loved ones, it’s also a very difficult time of year for many, particularly for those who are feeling lonely.

Make sure to be extra kind to those around you this festive season, you never know who could really use a chat with a friend.

If you’re experiencing distressing thoughts and feelings, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is there to support you. They’re open from 5pm–midnight, 365 days a year. Their national number is 0800 58 58 58, and they also have a webchat service if you’re not comfortable talking on the phone.
