Blackpool police are closing in on their can crook who looks suspiciously like Friends’ Ross Geller aka David Schwimmer.
It hasn’t been his day, his week, his month, or even his year, after being identified by Blackpool police.
Police in Blackpool shared a picture of the man, who bore a striking resemblance to Schwimmer’s character Ross, on their Facebook page on October 24.
They asked the public for help in identifying the thief who had a shifty look on his face as he looked at the camera carrying a crate in a now deleted Facebook post.
The caption read:
Do you recognise this man? We want to speak to him in relation to a theft at a Blackpool restaurant on the 20th September. If you know who this is, please email 7798@lancashire.pnn.police.uk quoting log LC-20180920-0670. Thank you for your help.
Thankfully, the social media attention has assisted in the police’s efforts to identify the culprit, with the official Blackpool Police Twitter account writing:
Could we BE any more overwhelmed with the response to our CCTV appeal after a theft at a restaurant in Blackpool? Most importantly, we’re now satisfied we’ve identified the man in the still & our enquiries are very much continuing. Huge thanks for sharing it with your Friends

Immediately after posting the original tweet, people commented in their thousands suggesting that this was Ross. But Ross never stole, did he?
Sure, Chandler and Rachel stole a cheesecake, Phoebe accidentally nearly stole Monica’s engagement ring, and Monica had a habit of taking Ross’ spare cash. But Ross?
He did have a habit of taking things from hotels, but that wasn’t exactly stealing. He was just taking what the hotel owed him, that’s all!
Comments under the post read:
“What’s the difference between beer and larger”, “I don’t know we can look it up”, “things are about to get wild!” [sic]
Please approach with caution. He is known to have studied Karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the total state of awareness.
And as much as we all wanted it to be Schwimmer stealing lagers in the photo, Blackpool police quickly confirmed this wasn’t the case.
They responded to the comments, writing:
Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.
Ross from Friends aka Schwimmer had the perfect response to the whole debacle, in the form of a hilarious video.
He responded on his Twitter account the same day saying:
Officers, I swear it wasn’t me.
As you can see, I was in New York.
To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.#itwasntme

The tweet quickly went viral, with many people claiming it was the ‘best tweet ever’. Bravo Ross.
One person responded to the tweet saying:
I think it’s safe to say David Schwimmer has broken the internet. Best come back ever
Another wrote:
They have to get a DNA test there’s no way he isn’t related to him. We might get a case of a long lost twin, you never know

Meanwhile the DJ Ross From Friends posted:
The moment I become the top hit when you google ‘Ross From Friends’, a David Schwimmer lookalike in Blackpool ruins it and steals a case of beer on CCTV.

When your face has been plastered over the internet, it’s only a matter of time before you’re brought to justice.
At least now when he gets out of prison he’s got a career set in place as a Ross from Friends lookalike. Not sure what the demand is like, but it’s a great back-up.
