40 Of The Best Reactions To The First Presidential Debate Between Trump And Biden

The first of three debates between US President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden has left a foul aftertaste for a lot of Americans and watchers worldwide. Instead of a polite and informative debate between politicians who are supposed to represent the very best the US has to offer, on Tuesday, September 29, we saw a belligerent shouting match that left a lot of Americans annoyed.

Bit of an overstatement? Not quite. According to a CBS News/YouGov post-debate poll, 69 percent of respondents said that they felt annoyed. Meanwhile, a CNN poll conducted by SSRS found that six in ten voters thought that Biden won the first debate. But plenty of people also thought that there were no real winners after Tuesday’s debacle but there was a clear loser—America. Bored Panda has collected some of the funniest reactions to the interruption-riddled debate and memes to come out of the chaos, so scroll on down, upvote your fave ones, and let us know what you thought of the Trump vs. Biden debate in the comments.

Bored Panda reached out to award-winning author, founder of Millennial Politics, and political commentator, Nathan Rubin. Read on for his take on what happened on Tuesday night.

"I think there was only one President on that stage, and there was only one leader on that stage, and he didn’t fly in on Air Force One," Nathan shared his opinion. "Trump’s petty attacks and uncontrollable rants showed his true colors as someone who is simply incapable of growing into the job of President."

Nathan said that Biden spoke to the American people "even while being constantly interrupted" and it's his belief that the candidate came across as the more pragmatic and realistic leader of the two.

The debate wasn’t without controversy. Biden called Trump a ‘clown’ and told him to ‘shut up’; meanwhile, the President refused to condemn white supremacy and tried to walk back on his comments on Wednesday.

However, one positive thing to come out of the chaos is that the rules of the remaining two Trump vs. Biden debates will be changed. The BBC reports that the Commission on Presidential Debates said it will alter the format.

One proposed measure is to cut the microphones of the candidates if they interrupt one another. That could reduce the amount of time the candidates talk over one another and squabble instead of actually, well, debating.

"Regarding the debate changes, anything they do that can prevent further interrupting from Trump (because let’s be honest, it was entirely one-sided), will save the future debates," Nathan gave his take on the proposed changes by the Commission on Presidential Debates. "But I doubt they can restrain Trump because he can’t even restrain himself. And that’s why I think we’re in for two more wild and whacky debates."

The first presidential debate was watched by 65 million TV viewers. The second debate will happen on October 15 while the final bout will occur on October 22. Meanwhile, vice-presidential candidates Mike Pence and Kamala Harris will verbally spar on October 7. Can we hope for a more civil and informative debate? We hope so.

You Dont Attack Family. For me, the biggest win for Biden was that he did not bring up Trumps kids even though Trump kept attacking his son.
