Tom Hanks Thanks Hospital Staff In A Heartwarming SNL Opening Monologue

In these strange times, most of us are trying our best to cope with our day-to-day lives by developing new routines to make ourselves as comfortable with this new at-home life as possible, as well as to cheer ourselves up. After all, optimism is a happiness magnet, as American ex-gymnast Mary Lou Retton once brilliantly put it.

Turns out, actor Tom Hanks tried to spark optimism and lift people’s spirits by hosting a Saturday Night Live show from his home and giving a quite cringe-worthy yet heartfelt opening monologue.

Tom Hanks recently hosted a SNL show from his home and delivered a light-spirited opening monologue

Hanks made sure to acknowledge the strangeness of these times, saying “It’s good to be here, though it is also very weird to be here”

“It is a strange time to try to be funny,” he continued and proceeded to talk about his coronavirus diagnosis along with some jokes

Ever since being diagnosed, I’ve been more like America’s dad than ever before—no one wants to be around me for very long and I make people uncomfortable,” the 63-year-old actor said

“This is the first time I’ve worn anything than sweatpants since March 11th. My wife had to help me put it on because I forgot how buttons work”

Hanks also paid his tribute to all the people “who are keeping this country going at a time when we need them more than ever before”

People were happy to see him recovered
