Just in case fan fiction and theory wasn’t enough to scratch your Game of Thrones itch after the Iron Throne is won, an official Game of Thrones documentary will be released the week after the finale airs.

Game of Thrones has been beaming incest, politics and death into your living rooms since 2011. The HBO hit has been distracting us from the global shitshow ever since and, needless to say, many are sad to see it end.

But, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel to quench any withdrawal symptoms you may experience and it comes in the form of a behind-the-scenes documentary titled The Last Watch. Weep.

For once, we’re pleased to say, it’ll be absolutely full to bursting with spoliers about how the show was made.

HBO’s press release for the documentary promises a dramatic narrative:

Much more than a “making of” documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world — and then have to say goodbye to it.

Some of the actors have touched on this wrenching goodbye in interviews before.

Emilia Clarke, who plays the inimitable rightful ruler of Westeros, wandered around London ‘aimlessly’ for three hours after the actor found out what happened to Daenerys Targaryen, according to the Press Association, per Esquire.

Of her aimlessly wandering reaction, she said:

It might as well have been raining, and I would’ve just walked in it not knowing what to do.

That was the moment I realized that alcohol can also be a depressant. I was kind of nursing a glass of wine going, ‘I don’t know why I’m not getting any happier from this.’

The documentary, directed by Jeanie Findlay, promises that sort of visceral reaction, and more.

The press release continues:

Made with unprecedented access, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.

Season eight is set to be the TV adaptation’s biggest, baddest and best yet – expect a lot of blood.

The final season of Game of Thrones is six episodes long, and begins on Sunday, April 14. The last episode will air on May 19, which means Game of Thrones: The Last Watch premieres May 26.
