Publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed during its Q3 financial call that new games in the Star Wars and Titanfall franchises will arrive by Fall 2019.
We’d previously heard that the single player story driven Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would arrive by Fall 2019, so this is more of a re-confirmation than anything else.
Fallen Order is being developed by Titanfall developer Respawn, and will see us playing as a young Jedi who survived the purge of Revenge of the Sith, hungry for some payback after seeing his fellow Jedi cut down by the rising Empire.
Beyond that, we don’t really know anything official about the title, though Wilson did say that the game plays “spectacularly well” and that EA will have more details to share very soon.
He said:
It’s very far along in development, and having spent time with it recently myself, it plays spectacularly well. This game truly captures the fantasy of becoming a Jedi, and we will have a lot more to share soon. It is exceptional in terms of its level of polish depth and living inside of the star wars world as a Jedi.
More interesting than the confirmation of the Star Wars release window is the news that a new Titanfall game is coming, especially after Respawn just came out and said Titanfall 3 wasn’t in development because the team had been working on the recently released free to play battle royale Apex Legends.
EA boss Andrew Wilson did say during the earnings call that this mysterious new Titanfall would be a spinoff set in the same universe, like Apex Legends, but that it’ll be a “premium” experience, and not free to play.
He explained:
We will drive the Titanfall universe forward with Apex Legends live services and a premium game later in the year. As the live service evolves, Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe.
Apex Legends is currently enjoying a very successful (surprise) launch, managing to hit 2.5 million players in one day. Hopefully EA can use this game to finally drum up the interest the Titanfall franchiss has always deserved.
