Another award season, another case of celebrities getting political on the red carpet, before they even set foot in the joint.

Joy Villa – famous for not much but a fashion statement – was leading the pack. Known by her stage name Princess Joy Villa, the American singer and songwriter is staunchly Republican, and made no secret of it on Sunday night’s 64th Grammy Awards ceremony in LA.

The Californian 27-year-old, whose hits include I Make The Static and Vagabonds in case you’d missed (or avoided) them, rocked up to the red carpet dressed as President Donald Trump’s border wall.

Villa arrived in a dress with a design strangely aesthetically reminiscent – but politically far removed – from Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall album art.

The right-wing fashion statement was made by Desi Designs Couture, who posted a damning disclaimer on their social media accounts saying the dress only represented the wearer’s views, and not the company’s own.

The dress itself… Well, where do you start? The headpiece – a crown of spikes – looks like something out of The Passion of the Christ, if it was set in space.

The barbed wire collar is about as crass as the red ‘Make America Great Again’ box bag.

The silver cape which she removed to reveal the brickwork patterned dress looks like what David Walliams wore after his channel swim.

Regardless of the racist undertones which have become synonymous with the wall and the MAGA message, this is at least an attention-seeking crime against fashion.

Villa is no stranger to fashion statements which become better known than her music. Last year she wore an anti-abortion themed dress, and the year before she wore a pageant-style MAGA blue dress.

On the singer’s Instagram, Villa elaborated further on her reasons for wearing the controversial outfit:

‘Shut up!’ They said. ‘Stop talking politics!’ They yelled. ‘Sit down you don’t matter!’ They insisted. I don’t listen to haters. I listen to truth.

She continued to give her un-evidenced opinion:

Building the wall will cut down crime, protect children from being trafficked and stop the 1 in 3 women from being sexually assaulted tying to get through illegally.

It’s a humanitarian crisis. I support life. I support protection. I SUPPORT THEWALK!

In the interests of bi-partisan honesty, and discounting her political persuasion (which we should all remember doesn’t actually reflect a person’s personality) the vegan bodybuilder – according to her Instagram bio – still looks like she’d be fucking awful company in the pub.
