The family of the missing pilot David Ibbotson, who was flying the plane carrying footballer Emiliano Sala, have started a GoFundMe campaign to search for him.
The 59-year-old pilot was flying the single propeller aeroplane with the 28-year-old striker onboard when it crashed into the sea near the channel island of Guernsey, on January 21.
Officials called off their search just four days after the crash. However, a fundraising page raised more than £260,000 to pay a private company to carry out a search for the footballer.
The private search was successful in recovering the body of Emiliano Sala, however David Ibbotson’s body was sadly not discovered.
After recovering the footballer’s body, Sala’s family said in a statement, via The Sun:
Our thoughts go to David Ibbotson and his family, hoping that the authorities will do their best to find him.
Now, the family of pilot David Ibbotson have started a GoFundMe page, in order to raise money to carry on the search for the missing dad.
David’s daughter, Danielle, wrote:
Please help bring David Ibbotson home and help give him the send off he deserves.
As a family we are relying on the kindness of the good hearted people to help us raise the much needed funds to help us find our beloved Dad, Husband and Son.
As a family we are trying to come to terms with the tragedy and the loss of two incredible men.
To be told the search has now been called off for the foreseeable future has only made this tragic time more difficult.
We can not bare the thought of him being alone, we need him home so that we are able to lay him to rest.
