The non-profit charity is located in the luxurious Turks and Caicos Islands, a hotspot for cruise ships, scuba-diving, white-sand beaches – and now, apparently, adorable little four-legged playmates.
Potcake Place K-9 Rescue is a completely volunteer-run charity which takes in homeless dogs, giving them the love, attention and cuddles they deserve. As there is no rescue centre on the islands, the volunteers look after the dogs in their own homes.

According to their website, “Potcake” is the name given to the dogs of the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands:
It came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs. As generations have passed, Potcakes have evolved into a breed which is extremely smart, loyal and loving.
Potcakes are rescued from around the islands of the Turks & Caicos. Litters of puppies as well as individual pups are found wandering without their litter mates. They may be found by tourists while they are out exploring, or locals in their backyard or while working on construction sites.
As so many people are unable to resist the opportunity to play with puppies, Potcake Place holds ‘Puppy Socialization Walks’ from Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dog-loving holidaymakers can visit the charity’s adoption centre, located in the Grace Bay area of Providenciales, to meet some of the lovely pups, take them for walks and even treat them to an adventure on the beach; activities which allow the dogs to socialise and prepare them for the day they’re adopted.
The scheme is great for anyone who might have left their own pet behind at home and has simply gone for too many days without petting one of the loving animals – it’s a win-win!

The website explains you don’t need anything to visit the puppies, writing:
We’ll give you everything you need, you just need to supply some TLC.
If you form an irresistible bond with your new furry friend, they could even be yours to keep forever through Potcake Place’s adoption scheme.
The charity can provide all the information about how to fly your new pup home – and you have to admit, a new dog would be a much better way to remember your holiday than with a boring old fridge magnet!
