When EA and Titanfall developer Respawn dropped the free to play battle royale Apex Legends last week, I don’t think they could have predicted it would be as succesful as it has been.
Hell, I don’t think any of us could. The surprise Titanfall spinoff hit 2.5 million players in its first day. In 72 hours it had amassed 10 million. One week in, the game has soared to an incredible 25 million.
Let’s just take a moment to remember that this is a game that released with zero hype. It dropped the same day it was announced, and currently has well over two million concurrent players at its peak.
It really is great to see Respawn get a win like this, especially since the excellent Titanfall games never got the commercial love they deserved.
Respawn boss Vince Zampella shared the fantastic news of the new 25 million milestone on Twitter, reminding us all that Season One of the Apex Legends battle pass drops in March, along with a few more surprises.
Been waiting all day to tell you this madness… @PlayApex hit 25 million players this morning. Read more about it at the link below. Remember we have Season One starting in March and more surprises coming. https://t.co/gwj1sZSQnY

Since we launched Apex Legends last week on Monday we’ve seen the creation of an Apex Legends community that is excited, thriving, and full of great feedback and ideas. Our goal is to build this game with you, our community, so keep giving us your feedback because we really are listening.
Apex Legends is showing no signs of slowing down, and it sounds like there’s plenty more to come in 2019. EA has a hit on its hands, and I don’t see the publisher wasting this opportunity.
Beyond the officially confirmed Battle Pass, which will introduce new characters, gear, and weapons across four seasons for the rest of the year, we’ve also heard unofficial talk from dataminers regarding new Solos and Duos modes.
Also confirmed by Respawn, but not really discussed at any length, was that crossplay will be coming to Apex Legends at some point, and Switch and mobile versions of the game might just be on the way.
