RSPCAIt’s been 40 years since the Dogs Trust started using their trademark slogan: ‘A dog is for life, not just for Christmas’.
Some people, however, still haven’t quite got the message.
An abandoned dog was found on New Year’s Day when neighbours heard barking coming from a nearby yard. The yard the dog was in belonged to a family who were away on holiday, and didn’t own a dog.
The concerned neighbours phoned the RSPCA, who came to check on the animal and investigate how it got there.
Lucy Hoehne, an inspector from the RSPCA, responded to the call and collected the dog to take it for a check up.
When she found it, the frightened little pup was wearing a Christmas sweater, and appeared to be suffering from a skin disease, according to Chronicle Live.
Lucy said:
This poor dog, her whole back end and legs are totally bald.
It’s likely she had been at the property some hours and it was an extremely cold night; being New Year’s Eve there were fireworks being let off — she must have been so terrified.
She isn’t microchipped although her weight appears to be healthy so I can only think she must have been dumped.
The dog, which has been named Ducky after the dinosaur character from The Land Before Time, due to her thick skin, is currently being looked after by the RSPCA, and is having tests to diagnose her skin condition.
The RSPCA are sharing images of the dog and the jumper she was wearing, in the hope that someone will recognise it and get in contact.
RSPCALucy added:
She had a jumper on from B&M which has a distinctive snowman pattern so I can only hope someone recognises it and comes forward with information so we can try to work out where she has come from
The dog, a terrier, was found in the New Coundon area of Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
