Minecraft’s Final Last-Gen Console Update Has Arrived

Mojang

Earlier in the year, Mojang announced that it would be ending support for the PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, and Wii U versions of Minecraft.

True to their word, these last-gen versions of the game have now received one final update, with no more to come. Ever. 4J Studios pointed out the happy news on their Twitter account.

So what does this final update for last-gen editions of Minecraft do? Well, not much to be honest. A new Nightmare Before Christmas texture pack has been added to the game, and that’s about it.

There’ll be no more updates for the game going forward, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t play online, build, and whatever else it is you kids do in Minecraft.

Given that Minecraft is currently available on is PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Kindle, and Android, ending development on a third of those platforms should make life a little easier for Mojang.

Microsoft

Between this and Microsoft’s push for crossplay under the “better together” initiative, it’s pretty clear that the company is trying to get all its Minecraft ducks in a row and create a truly unified version of the game.
