Texas congressman and ex-Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw has reached out to Pete Davidson after the SNL comedian shared worrying messages on social media.

Crenshaw had previously been poked fun at by Davidson and other Saturday Night Live actors during a sketch on the TV show, however he later appeared on another episode of the show, where Davidson apologised.

During a ‘Weekend Update’ segment, Crenshaw appeared alongside Davidson, with the comedian saying: ‘I mean this from the bottom of my heart… it was a poor choice of words. The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world.’

The congressman has now reached out to Davidson, saying his posts on social media recently have been ‘pretty devastating’, and offering himself as someone for Davidson to talk to, along with words of encouragement.

On Saturday, December 15, the SNL cast member posted a message on Instagram – which has now been deleted – saying, via TMZ:

i really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. i’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last.

all i’ve ever tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so.

Crenshaw appeared on a news segment on KPRC2, in which he talked about Davidson’s message.

He said:

It was pretty devastating. You don’t want to see somebody in that kind of position, to the point where they’re actually putting out a cry for help on social media… that’s not a good place to be in.

I talked to him personally yesterday, and I talked to him for a little bit about it. We don’t go back very far… but I think he appreciated hearing from me.

And what I told him was this – everybody has a purpose in this world, God put you here for a reason, but it’s your job to find that purpose, and you should live that way – seeking out that purpose, not expecting it to be given to you by anybody else. Know that you have value, and you do more good than you realise for people.

SNL boss Lorne Michaels has also spoken about his support of Davidson, and is willing to help him in any way he can. Michaels pulled most of Davidson’s sketches from the most recent episode of SNL in order ‘to give him a break’.

It has also been reported, via Page Six, that Michaels wants to make sure the comedian gets all the assistance he needs, including ‘sending Pete to get help’, adding that he will return to the show in the new year.
