Dog Desperately Tries To Jump Back In Car As Owner Abandons It

RSPCA

A devastating video shows a dog desperately trying to jump back into a car as its owner abandons it.

CCTV footage shared by the RSPCA shows the distressed Staffordshire bull terrier bounding up at the car doors as its owner began to drive off without it in Stoke-on-Trent just days before Christmas.

The owner can be seen throwing the dog’s bed on to the pavement and taking the Staffie off its lead before running back to the car while the dog seemed to be distracted.

Take a look at the heartbreaking footage here:

The poor pooch sprinted after its owner and started jumping up at the car doors, its tale wagging as if it thought the man was playing a game.

Even when he started to drive away, the faithful dog didn’t give up and chased after the car, circling the vehicle as it tried to get to its owner.

According to StokeonTrent Live the video was recorded at around 5pm on December 17, at the corner of Timor Grove and Pacific Road in Trentham, Stoke.

About an hour later a passerby found the abandoned dog sitting in its bed. The RSPCA were alerted and have since launched an investigation into the situation.

They have appealed to the public, asking for anyone with information about the black and white Staffie’s owner to come forward.

Speaking about the heartbreaking scene in the CCTV footage, RSPCA inspector Natalie Perehovsky said:

The footage has to be seen to be believed, it’s just awful. To see the poor dog in such obvious distress jumping up at the car as it drives away it just heartbreaking.

I can’t understand how someone could do this.

Natalie explained the Staffie, who has since been named Snoop, appeared to have previous owners who were not the ones responsible for his abandonment in the video.

She said:

The vets scanned his microchip and we have traced two previous owners in the Birmingham area, but do not believe either are the current owners, and therefore not those responsible for abandoning the dog.

One man can be seen clearly in the footage dumping the dog, and there is a second person in the driver seat of the car. I am very keen to hear from anyone who recognises the vehicle, the man or the dog.

The veterinary staff have nicknamed the dog Snoop, and he is in good condition, thought to be two years old. He is a white Staffie with black marking, and is such a friendly, lovely boy.

The RSPCA inspector continued:

He’s currently being cared for at a private boarding kennels where he will get all the care he needs whilst I investigate further.

Anyone who recognises the vehicle, the dog or the men in the footage can contact me in complete confidence.

It’s beggars belief that someone could abandon a dog like this at Christmas, but we are so thankful to the kind people who found Snoop sitting sadly in his bed, for taking him to the safety of a vets straight away.

The footage is truly heartbreaking; hopefully Snoop will find the loving home he deserves before too long!

If you have any information which could help the RSPCA investigation, leave a message on the inspector’s appeal line number on 0300 123 8018.
