EA has announced that Respawn is set to release multiple games before the end of 2019, which strongly suggests that Titanfall 3 will arrive sooner than we thought.
While neither EA nor Respawn will confirm if one of these games will indeed be a Titanfall sequel, it certainly wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that one of the three games set to land in 2019 will be at a follow up to the critically acclaimed Titanfall 2.
The announcement came about during a quarterly earnings call, when EA CEO Andrew Wilson said:
Across multiple studies, we have new projects underway, including games from Respawn that are slated to launch by next holiday season.
We do know that a Titanfall sequel is in fact currently in development at Respawn, we just don’t know exactly how far along Titanfall 3 is right now. In addition, Respawn is also working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and an unnamed VR project.
While we know next to nothing about Titanfall 3, Wilson did shed a little light on Fallen Order during E3 2018. He confirmed back then that the game will launch during 2019’s holiday season, so we know that one of Respawn’s 2019 games will be Star Wars, which means the other one will be Titanfall 3 or the VR game.
Again though, we have no idea how far along in development Titanfall 3 is, so we could be waiting a while for it yet.
EAEA has spoken frankly regarding Titanfall 2’s disappointing sales in the past – sales that weren’t helped by the company’s frankly bizzarre decision to release the game sandwiched between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, something EA admitted wasn’t the best call.
With that in mind then, it would seem strange to release Titanfall 3 during what I imagine will be a busy 2019 holiday period, but there’s every chance the EA and Respawn are confident they have a game that can go toe to toe with the best of the rest.
