Netflix has new movies coming for December.PolyGram Filmed Entertainment

There are few things in life more satisfying in contemporary life than loading up Netflix and finding a load of new – and actually really good – titles have been added, as if by magic.

You’ve been scrolling through the same tired old terrain for weeks, unable to settle on one thing or another, and suddenly it’s like having a fresh blanket of snow to tread through.

And it appears Netflix is bringing a stocking full of genuine gifts this festive season, and you won’t be wanting to return any of them…

If you’re looking for a movie for cosy nights in – and you need a break from the oncoming onslaught of Christmas films – then there are some bonafide belters about to tumble down the chimney and onto your laptop.

Silence of the Lambs and The Big Lebowski will both be available to watch. Two fundamentally different nineties era movies, they are both nonetheless absolute classics; included on many a film buff’s favourites list.

Silence of the Lambs (1991) is an endlessly quotable psychological horror which spawned countless paler imitators, with arguably the most terrifying fictional villain ever created, everyone’s favourite cannibalistic sophisticate Hannibal Lecter.

The Big Lebowski (1998) is a timelessly quirky crime comedy; filled with slackers, bowling and severed toes. The soundtrack is almost perfect, and the surreal aesthetic and narrative is the Coen Brothers at their most fun.

Other films being added include feel good comedy drama About a Boy (2002), and mistletoe-strewn rom-com The Holiday (2006).

Golden Globe nominated Fences (2016) and gritty sequel T2 Trainspotting (2017) will also be making an appearance.

And oh, just in case you didn’t yet know, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) will be casually landing on Christmas Day, like an emotionally destructive star upon the Christmas tree.

Netflix will also be bringing us some of their very own original movies. This will include Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, a new adaption of Rudyard Kipling’s beloved fantasy adventure.

Dumplin’, is a musical comedy about an insecure, plus-sized teenage girl who enters a beauty pageant, ran by her former pageant queen mother.

Roma is a story of a middle family and their housekeeper in 1970’s Mexico City, while Bird Box is a creepy apocalyptic thriller starring Sandra Bullock.

If you’re more into non-fiction when it comes to your nightly entertainment, then there are plenty of thought provoking documentaries en route for you to sink your teeth into.

The Innocent Man is perfect for true crime fans, looking at two murders which took place in Oklahoma bak in the 1980s.

Remastered: Who Killed Jam Master Jay? looks at the unsolved murder of Run-D.M.C. DJ Jam Master Jay.

With this lot on the way, there is no need at all to leave your sofa this Christmas season, apart from to top up on hot chocolate.
