Red Dead Redemption 2Rockstar

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online starts today in its beta version, and Rockstar have finally given us some more info on when people will get access, and exactly what we can expect this coming week.

News broke yesterday that the RDR2 online beta would be coming in waves this week and it’s got fans of the cowboy epic extremely excited.

So let’s get right to it, starting with what time you can expect to get your hands on it. As I said, the release is being staggered slightly, so take a look at the times below and see where you land.

Rockstar

Tuesday, November 27, 8.30am EST/1.30pm GMT – Ultimate Edition owners will be the first ones able to play the beta.

Wednesday, November 28 – Anybody who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on launch day (October 26) will gain access.

Thursday, November 28 – People who played the game over the launch weekend (October 26 – October 29).

Friday, November 29 – Everybody who owns a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be able to join the beta.

It’s believed that some internal testing of servers has already taken place on Rockstars’ side, and staggering the release of the beta like this will likely be to help them avoid the mess that GTA Online encountered on release.

So, what can players expect to be doing in the beta?

Well, this little extract from a Rockstar press release says it all:

With the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as its foundation, Red Dead Online transforms the vast and deeply detailed landscapes, cities, towns and habitats of Red Dead Redemption 2 into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players. Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience.

Explore this huge world solo or with friends. Form or join a Posse to ride with up to seven players; gather around the fire at your Camp; head out hunting or fishing; visit bustling towns; battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts; hunt for treasure; take on missions and interact with familiar characters from across the five states; or fight against other outlaws in both spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles; compete with other players or whole posses in open world challenges and much more.

The press release goes on to stress that this beta period will be to find and fix any bugs or oddities players might face, and it’s hoped that Rockstar can locate and deal with them before the full fat release of the update further down the line.

As for when that full release will be? All Rockstar need is a little bit of time and some god damn faith and loyalty. Naturally we insist it comes sooner rather than later.
