Haunting Of Hill House Season 2 Is Looking Like It’s Going Ahead

HAUNTING HILL WEB

Mike Flanagan’s horror series The Haunting Of Hill House was certainly Netflix’s runaway hit original show this year.

A loose re-imagining of the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson, the show follows five siblings across two timelines as the paranormal experiences they encountered at Hill House continue to haunt them in the present day.

Terrifying audiences, some viewers admitted it made them feel close to passing out while watching it.

You can watch a trailer for the show below, if you dare:

Since the show hit Netflix this October, fans have been urging the streaming service to commission a second season wanting to see more strange goings on.

Even though I too want more of the brilliant show in my life, I don’t think I will ever be prepared to return to the red room.

However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Carla Gugino (Olivia Crain) hinted that one day we might.

If you are yet to finish the series, be warned spoilers lie ahead.

While there is a very plausible theory the surviving members of the Crain family never escaped from the terrifying red room, meaning there could be potentially more to explore with those characters, Gugino said she would be up for working on future series.

However, she would not be returning in the role of Olivia saying she would be keen to take on a different character in an anthology:

Mike Flanagan said he would be interested in the notion of an anthology, where some actors come back to play different characters. I think he feels like he has told the complete story of the Crain family but if I was invited and I was able to, I would really love to, just because I do love to collaborate with him.

When you find one of those like-minded collaborators — and in the case of Mike Flanagan that is for sure the case — then I’m always excited about the idea.

Of course hit show American Horror Story is an anthology series so it is certainly a format which both works and is popular.

As Gugino mentioned, creator Flanagan has said previously he would be interested in doing an anthology series following on from Haunting.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, while Flanagan admitted he didn’t want to ‘speculate too much’ about the show’s future, he did say while the Crain family’s story is over there could be more ones to tell with other characters.

He said:

I don’t want to speculate too much about season two until Netflix and Paramount and Amblin let us know if they want one. What I will say, though, is that as far as I’ve ever been concerned with this, the story of the Crain family is told. It’s done.

I think that there are all sorts of different directions we could go in, with the house or with something completely different. I love the idea of an anthology as well.

That said, I think more than anything, the show is about haunted places and haunted people, as Steve says, and there’s no shortage of either. So, there’s any number of things we could do, in or out of Hill House.

While Flanagan is yet to hear from Netflix, Paramount and Amblin, since the show was so successful I can’t really see them saying no to more of it.

The Haunting of Hill House is streaming now on Netflix.
