The WBC has confirmed they are in support of an ‘ultimate heavyweight fight’ between the winner of the Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury bout and Anthony Joshua.
Wilder and Fury will fight against each other for the WBC heavyweight world title on December 1, 2018, in Los Angeles.
Defending WBC titleholder Wilder is currently the favourite to win, on account of Fury having only recently returned to the sport following a drugs ban.
Fans have long wanted to see ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder face WBA (Unified), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Joshua. However, their representatives have previously been unable to agree terms.

Speaking with Sky Sports, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said:
Absolutely, that’s a fight the world wants to see. That’s a fight the WBC has just ruled to support. During our convention, a ruling of the mandatory status included the provision of trying to make the winner of Fury-Wilder against Joshua.
I’m not certain about any contract. That’s a private agreement, but the WBC is of course the one that orders the fights, so our position is that we want to see the ultimate heavyweight fight, which involves Joshua and involves the WBC champion.
Mauricio Sulaiman also stated he would like to see the fight take place ‘in a stadium’ of 90,000 fans, explaining:
I much rather see fights in stadiums than in casinos. I like to see the fans at the arenas.
Boxing fans have taken to social media to discuss this exciting prospect.
One person commented:
Awesome if it happens! Chance of there being an undisputed HW champion again, which hopefully will be Joshua who has revived interest in HW boxing (at least in the UK).
Another exclaimed:
No way! Boxing is so exciting now. I’ve never really been an avid fan until recently. The heavyweight division is [lit].
Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, on October 8, Wilder appeared confident as he called out Joshua for being a ‘coward’:
Hey Joshua, me and Fury have got this thing going on to see who is the biggest and baddest in the world, to see who is champion, one face, one name, something you was too coward to do.
You was a coward, and you know this, your team knows this. Every last one of you saying things over again, you manipulated it, you conjugated it. [You are] Compulsive liars.
When asked about the potential for the Gypsy King to fight Joshua should he win, Wilder appeared enthusiastic, stating:
That sounds like a fantasy fight. That sounds like something, that sounds good to happen. You know, the winner goes on to fight the other one.

Meanwhile, Fury has described Joshua as being ‘pumped-up weightlifter’ during a recent, brutal interview with ESPN::
I don’t know about all this Joshua talk. The guy’s a pumped-up weightlifter, he’s not even a fighter.
He’s been given hand-selected opponents and gifted [a gold medal] in his own country.
You’re looking at the two best heavyweights on the planet – the biggest puncher on Earth [Wilder] and the slickest boxer in the division.
I’m the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, going back to John L. Sullivan days. For any of these guys to be considered ‘the man’, they have to beat the Gypsy King sat right here in front of them.
Which of the men do you think could be facing Joshua in the ring?
