Red Dead Redemption 2’s Incredible Hidden Detail For Players Who Turn Off Mini-Map

RockStar Games

It can’t have escaped your attention that there’s this little game called Red Dead Redemption 2 coming out soon. People are kind of excited about it.
Rockstar’s long-awaited Western sequel/prequel/whatever has been nearly a decade in the making. I mean, this is the company that made GTA V – which has probably the most well-realised open world of all time, so you can bet Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t gonna hold anything back.
At this point Rockstar has already shared two incredible in-depth gameplay trailers showcasing life in the Old West. Truly, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks like a game that’s absolutely brimming with incredible little details to make the world feel more alive.
There are stupid mini games to waste time on, cattle to round up, shows to attend, and the NPCs of the world will even comment on your personal hygiene. If you don’t shave or wash regularly, you will literally create a stink around town.
The hygiene feature in particular will be a handy little primer for reality when I inevitably stumble out of my house bleary eyed to get snacks after a 72-hour Red Dead Redemption 2 binge.
There is, however, one new feature that nobody has really addressed yet. It’s the most incredible little detail for players who want to explore the game with total immersion, meaning they’ll most likely be turning off the mini-map display, which usually sits on screen at all times in any open world game.
Rockstar Intel confirms that players who turn off the mini-map feature will be treated to new lines of dialogue from NPCs, who will suddenly start giving you actual directions involving routes and landmarks, making it a more immersive way to plan your journeys than just staring at a map on your screen.
It might not sound like much, but it’s just another indication of the love and care Rockstar has put into creating a game that can completely immerse you if you want it too.
I’ll definitely be playing the game in first-person mode with the map function turned off, personally.

Red Dead Redemption 2 hits PS4 and Xbox One on October 27, and I am insanely excited to lose myself in its world.
