Metro 2033 is available to download on Steam completely free until 6pm BST today (October 26). If you like what you’ve seen on the upcoming Metro Exodus, then this is a great chance to get acquainted with the series.
Fans of the Fallout series should find a lot to enjoy in Metro 2033. Set in a nuclear ravaged Moscow, survivors have been forced to hide in the city’s system of tunnels to avoid the toxic atmosphere and mutated beasts that rule above ground.
It’s a thoughtful, tense, and relentlessly challenging FPS that has players combining stealth with a series of massive weapons, as you fight off fellow humans and irradiated monstrosities alike.
Of course, if you don’t have a PC powerful to run the game, you can always pick up the Dmitry Glukhovsky novel of the same name, on which the game is (obviously) based. Books, if you didn’t know, are like video games. Kind of. Not really though.
Basically, if you’re after some FPS action that combines genuine horror with a bleak tale of survival, then you could do a hell of a lot worse than Metro 2033. Especially since it’s not going to cost you anything.
This is also a great way for PC players to soothe the pain of not being able to play Red Dead Redemption 2 this weekend. Who needs that game, anyway?
The upcoming Metro Exodus, meanwhile, will hit PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Febryary 2019.
