As is tradition for the Pokemon series, Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee will have version-exclusive critters, meaning there are some ‘mon you’ll only be able to nab on either game.
Anyone who’s been a fan of the franchise since the beginning will know that this practice goes all the way back to Red & Blue, and it looks like the exclusive creatures for Pikachu & Eevee are pretty in line with the exclusive monsters from the classics.
Those who decide to pick up Let’s Go Pikachu will be able to grab the ground type Sandshrew/Sandslash, the leafy lover Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume, and the fiery doggo Growlithe/Arcanine.
Meanwhile, if Let’s Go Eevee is more your speed, you can net the original fire fox Vulpix/Ninetails, everyone’s favourite feline Pokemon Meowth/Persian, or the grassy weirdo Bellsprout/Weepinbell/Victreebell.
This has always just been a way to encourage players looking to catch ’em all to get out there and trade with friends – although given the ability to trade wirelessly and online, and the new function that lets players transfer their Pokemon over from Pokemon GO, it seems like version exclusive critters aren’t really as big a deal as they used to be.
With that said, I’m still getting Let’s Go Pikachu just so I can get my hands on an Arcanine as soon as possible. The best boy in gaming right there.
Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee come to Nintendo Switch on November 16, and essentially look set to work as quasi-remakes of the original games, with some features added in from the Pokemon GO mobile game.
The concept of a “watered down” Pokemon game aimed at beginners seems to have rubbed a lot of hardcore fans of the RPG the wrong way, but it could end up being one of the year’s biggest surprises.
