28-year-old William McCormick was struck by the bear as it fell down a slope after being shot at Carter Lake.
McCormick, who is a soldier stationed at Alaska’s Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, was also hit by a rock which had become dislodged, according to police reports.
He was taken by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Anchorage where he is now fighting for his life, having sustained ‘life threatening injuries’.
